Ian Taylor

Following graduation from the University of Leeds, Ian joined Kent Fire & Rescue Service as an operational firefighter. This enabled Ian to witness first-hand the development of fire and its effects on buildings, in addition to appreciating the personal and economic consequences of fires. Ian progressed through the ranks to Station Manager and in 2005 was seconded to the Service’s headquarters to assist with the implementation of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order.

In 2007 Ian left the Service to take up a position as an Associate Director at a large engineering consultancy. His combination of academic knowledge and practical experience enabled Ian to develop fire strategies for several innovative and complex buildings, leading to him being awarded Chartered Engineer status by the Engineering Council.

In addition to a proven commercial track-record, Ian’s academic excellence is demonstrated by a Master’s degree with distinction in Fire & Explosion Engineering, where his research and design theses attracted industry-sponsored awards.

Ian holds a Private Pilot’s Licence and is a keen sailor.
